Welcome Mr Otto: A New Chapter at Aubrey Briards
At Aubrey Briards, we are absolutely overjoyed and deeply grateful to welcome the stunning and much-anticipated Mr Otto to our home. Our heartfelt thanks go to Carmen and Andreas of Carmandy Briards in Australia, whose generosity, dedication, and shared passion have made this moment possible.
Over the years, our connection with Carmen and Andreas has been more than a trans-Tasman partnership—it has been a friendship built on trust, mutual respect, and an enduring love for the magnificent Briard breed. Despite the Tasman Sea separating our shores, we have always found common ground in our values and vision for the breed. Together, we've shared knowledge, supported each other’s breeding programs, and celebrated the joy these dogs bring into our lives.
Our journey began with the arrival of Spirit, a stunning and affectionate fawn girl who captured our hearts with her gentle temperament and expressive eyes. Then came Taffy, a beautiful blue girl whose presence brought grace and charm to our lives. These two girls, both from Carmandy Briards, have been incredible ambassadors of their lineage, and we treasure the legacy they represent.
Now, with the arrival of Mr Otto, we feel the story has come full circle. Otto is the next male to join our family at Aubrey Briards, and we are filled with excitement as we look forward to showing him and watching him grow. His structure, presence, and temperament already promise a bright future in the ring—and at home. Otto’s presence will help strengthen our breeding program, preserving and advancing the quality bloodlines we hold dear.
Carmen and Andreas have worked tirelessly to raise and enjoy their own Briards in Australia. Their efforts to import and maintain strong, diverse bloodlines have not only enhanced the breed in their homeland, but across Australasia. Their contributions are far-reaching, and the entire Briard community owes them thanks for their commitment to excellence.
We would especially like to thank Carmen and Andreas for entrusting us with Otto. His name holds special significance to our family. In 1880, two Jewish brothers left Prussia in search of new beginnings. The younger brother, Gustave Haussmann, settled on the West Coast of New Zealand to raise a family. His elder brother, Otto, journeyed further, settling in New South Wales, Australia. Though they built lives on opposite sides of the sea, their legacy continues today—united once again through a Briard. It is only fitting that our new addition bears the name Otto, honouring our Great-Great Uncle and celebrating the ties between New Zealand and Australia that continue to strengthen through generations, both human and canine.
As we mark 20 years of sharing our lives with this extraordinary breed, Mr Otto’s arrival reminds us of how far we’ve come—and how much more there is to look forward to. We are filled with gratitude and anticipation as we look to the future, walking forward with Otto by our side.
Here’s to new beginnings, treasured friendships, and the joy of Briards.
With heartfelt thanks,
Aubrey Briards
